HUMP DAY

Wednesday, January 28:
  • 87:07 minutes
  • 22.21 miles
Did I mention that I increased the tension on the bike to level 4 last week? I totally did, and boy can I tell. I can't go as fast nor as far as I was at first, and I really feel it. It's great, because it feels like I'm really doing something.

In honor of HUMP DAY:

Tuesday

There was no snow day! The entire "blizzard" was a complete letdown, actually.

Here's the road leading down to our neighborhood trolley stop. It's pretty, but not exactly snowed under.

That said, I didn't get much pedal time in. Oh well!

Tuesday, January 27:
  • 59:49 minutes
  • 16.59 miles

Monday, January 26, 2015

Monday, Monday, Manic Monday

And maybe a snow day tomorrow. Yay?

Monday, January 26:
  • 85:58 minutes
  • 21.91 miles
Not too bad, as I spent the entire afternoon (from noon on, actually) in meetings. I get to go home now!

Monday listens.

I just want to go to bed

I am so ready for the weekend, let me tell you. We are supposed to get snow, but I didn't know that and I scheduled a last-minute (and sorely-needed) dentist appointment for myself and my kid tomorrow afternoon. So we'll see how that goes.

Friday, January 23:
  • 116:37 minutes
  • 29.56 miles
Have a good weekend.

Salted Caramel Square

Starbucks Salted Caramel Square. Have you had one? They are delicious. I ate one at my desk this afternoon, as I pedaled along.
With that out of the way - what a lovely day I've had! It started with a bit of training (I have a student entering data on spreadsheets - not much fun for him, but necessary for me), followed by a work meeting, then a group of us met to go over the first week of Digging Deeper: Making Manuscripts, a MOOC out of Stanford that promises to be pretty amazing.
I spent the afternoon reviewing proposals for a conference, and pedaling. Got quite a bit done on both fronts (still some reviews to do tonight, though).
Thursday, January 22:
  • 98:33 minutes
  • 25.21 miles
Over the weekend I think I'll crunch the numbers and see how my output has varied over the past couple of weeks.

See you tomorrow.

Busy Day

That's my excuse, anyway.

Wednesday, January 21:
  • 73:09 minutes
  • 19.32 miles
I don't even have a dress to blame! Just lots of meetings.

I did pedal through a conference call, however, and I don't think the folks on the other end realized what I was doing. Heh heh heh.

Until tomorrow, here's a compilation video of Commander Riker sitting down.

A Day Late and a Dollar Short

Or a day late, anyway.

Yesterday was busy, I had to run off to an afternoon meeting off-campus (at the swanky Union League of Philadelphia - not to be confused with the Philadelphia Union Soccer team) and I forgot to update the blog before I ran off. And even though I was in a dress all day (as the Union League has a dress code), and I left earlier than usual, I was still able to get in a good day's worth of pedaling.

Tuesday, January 20:
  • 112.20 minutes
  • 28.11 miles
Comparing this with Friday - more time, fewer miles. I pedaled a bit more slowly than I have been. I think that's fine, as long as I'm moving, that's what matters.

Off to pedal more now!

Until tomorrow... Whoopie and Ving!

TGIF

Friday, January 16:
  • 99.14 minutes
  • 29.88 miles
Monday is MLK Day, which is a holiday here, so I won't be at my desk on Monday.

See you Tuesday!

Yesterday didn't happen

Of course, yesterday did happen, just not in a pedaling-under-the-desk way.

On Thursday morning at 1 (yes, that's 1am) my husband woke me up to inform me that the furnace had started blowing cold air. Hooray! So I stayed home yesterday to wait for Furnace Guy (he's Bicycle Repair Man's lesser-known sidekick). Furnace Guy was successful, so now we have heat in our house. Joy!

I also got to spend the morning playing with Legos and listening to Mumford and Sons with my 5-year old son. So the day wasn't completely wasted! However, it does mean no bike log. I will have a log for today!

Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days

Logs for today. Level Three again.

Wednesday, January 14:
  • 72.56 minutes
  • 22.20 miles
I'm feeling like a slacker because I only got in 72.56 minutes today. (Compare to 120 minutes yesterday!) However I spent the morning in meetings. Not a slacker, really I'm not.

A few people were curious about set-up, so I made a little video to illustrate how the whole thing works. It's pretty self explanatory, but I'm happy to answer questions.

Bonus video, because today's subject heading made me think of play by Samuel Beckett. He wrote some strange plays, did that man.

Ginger!

Did you know that ginger is effective for treating sore muscles? It's true! (Google it, if you don't believe me).

Last week and yesterday, I was feeling a bit sore before bed. I remembered a friend of mine, trained as a naturopath, had mentioned that ginger can work to soothe sore muscles. I googled it, and found a recommendation to take two teaspoons (ground works fine) in liquid. I use green tea, but any liquid (preferably one that tastes good with ginger) could work.

The taste is strong but not totally overpowering. And it works! I had tea with ginger last night before bed, and woke up feeling fine. Ready to pedal my way through the day.

First Post

I have a bike  under my desk.

That's about it.

Every day I'll log how many minutes and miles I pedal, on the bike under my desk.

Today was actually Day Four of my Pedal Adventure. I'll go ahead and log my first four days now.

Tuesday, January 6:

  • 81:30 minutes
  • 25 miles
  • Level 1
Level 1 was very easy, so on Day Two I upped it to Level 2.

Wednesday, January 7:
  • 114:40 minutes
  • 34.73 miles
  • Level 2
Again, just a bit too easy, so I increased to Level 3.

Thursday, January 8:
  • 82:30 minutes
  • 23.48 miles
  • Level 3
I like Level 3, so that's where I'll stay for the time being.

I had to go out of town for a long weekend, and wasn't back to my desk until today.

Tuesday, January 13:
  • 120 minutes (like old school MTV, do you remember old school MTV?)
  • 33.34 miles
A few things. One, this bike under the desk is damned addictive. I find myself turning to it when I get stressed out (which I do, quite a lot). It's better than a brownie, I guess. I'm also hungry all the time (not a bad thing, as I do like to eat), and I slept really well last week. Not so well over the weekend. So I'm hoping that as I pedal this week the good sleep will continue.

See you tomorrow.
